Elīza Tīruma was born on August 21, 1990 in Sigulda. She is a former Latvian luger, an Olympic Games, World Championship, and European Championship medalist. Her highest individual achievement — a silver medal at the 2016 European Championship in Altenberg. E. Tīruma, by winning a bronze medal in the team relay at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, became the first woman after the restoration of Latvia’s independence to have won a medal at the Winter Olympic Games.
